The video is a narrative, depicting the relationship of two men
and harsh reaction of society.
The entirety of
the video is cast in a monochrome fashion allowing the shadows to be
accentuated thus giving a darker feel to the topic. Light is also played with
using the monochrome style as seen with the fire at the end of the film. The
tone in the beginning was tentative between the two lovers but as the song
progressed it took on a more sinister feeling.
There are two key moments,
the first being to meeting of the two lovers, specifically their kiss. The shot
is set with they being the main focus (and literally in focus) while the
remainder of the shot is blurred out because it is 'irrelevant' to that moment
in the video. The second the very last shot of the film, as one of the men
races to rescue his partner but finds he is too late as the fire burns brightly
in the background, casting the grief stricken man in a silhouette.
The camera moves
as if being held by an amateur photographer, the movement of the holder causes
the scenes to appear shaky and unsteady.
Though the lyrics
in the song imply a heterosexual couple the story as a whole that the song
tells matches the video. The love in song is hinted at being sinful and the
couple in the video was prosecuted for the same reason.
